Dec. 12
Hello,
On Thursday I sent out a memo regarding our upcoming concert/show/dessert theatre next Sunday at 7 p.m. I put each student's name on the top of the memo, and taped it to the wall outside the music room door, so I know which student has not yet collected theirs. Also, I will post it here below.
Thankyou.

Re: Upcoming Performance
It's that time of year when music students heighten your Christmas Spirit with an evening of song, comedy, and dance. Please join the gr.7,8, and 9 musical theatre students, as well as both the treble choir and mixed chamber choir as they perform their Christmas show, "The Best Time of the Year," on Sunday evening, December 19th at 7 p.m. For your enjoyment, this will be a dessert theatre, whereby students not only perform for you, but also serve fine desserts with tea and coffee. Tickets will be presold beginning Monday, Dec. 12th at $5.
As musical theatre and choirs are performance based activities, it is essential all students attend. As well, theatre members have partners, and rely on each other for dancing/acting parts.
Following is a list of costumes:
Gr. 7 Musical Theatre
Most students are playing the parts of 'kids' at Christmas, so they will wear pajamas and slippers.
The 12 kids who unwrap their presents need to bring a toy or teddy so I can wrap it up for the prop. Please bring it ASAP.
One student is Santa, and I have that outfit for him.
Elvis needs jeans, shirt with the collar, and a cool jacket. Hair slicked back.
Some students are gospel singers, and I have those costumes.
5 students are "bad kids" so dress tough (hip-hop? Bling?)
2 students are country singers, so they need a cowboy hat.
Grade 8 and 9 musical theatre students are also singing and dancing, and upon consultation with them, they also said they wanted to dress "fun" in PJ's and slippers. Choirs as well. Perhaps add some Christmas flavor with a Santa hat, or a scarf or Christmas sweater. So, for this performance, no formal black and white.
The gym will be set up like a restaurant, with tables, tablecloths, and place settings. Students will perform the first half, then go to the cafeteria, where parent helpers will be there to pass them each 2 plates. Students will then be sent to the gym to present your choice of dessert, and some will come around offering tea and coffee. Then they run back onstage for the final half. The show, including dessert intermission, will run from 7-9 p.m. Tickets will be pre-sold beginning Monday.
At this time, may I ask for a few items please.
1) School concerts are usually $5, but this time we are having the students serve you dessert and drinks as well. So, to keep the cost at $5, may I ask some parents to please offer to bring a cake, pie, or cookies. They can be dropped off at the school the day of the show, Sunday the 19th. any time after noon.
2) I have sent a previous mass email via Student Achieve, asking for some parent volunteer helpers for decorating, etc. and received some good response. If anyone else would like t help with the logistics of a dessert theatre, please sign below.
3) As well, the school is missing a few of your emails, which means you are not getting school notifications. If you have not passed it on, I'll leave a space below to return to me.
4) Christmas is also a time to be nostalgic. Therefore, I ask students to please give me a Christmas picture of them as a younger child via email me or a hard copy. Please put your name on the back of it, so it can be returned to you. I will turn it into a sweet powerpoint while 2 students are singing the lovely song "Merry Christmas Past." I would need this picture by Wednesday, Dec.15th.
Thankyou so much for supporting music and singing. This is an awkward age for students, as they often don't want to stick out and are wanting to fit in, so they are all to be applauded for the confidence it takes to perform.
Any questions please call or email me any time.
Thankyou.

The Macdonald Drive Musical Theater course combines skills in four disciplines: acting, singing, dancing and stagecraft. This course will familiarize students with the tools needed to build key musical theater arts skills. Students will receive instruction in the history of musical theater, acting training exercises, basic dance, basic voice and theater conventions. The purpose of this course is to enable students to participate in varied aspects of musical theater, with special attention to the fundamentals of voice production, stage movement, acting, characterization, dance and technical aspects of
a musical. Because musical theatre is a performing arts course, it is through theatre games, show choir music, choreography, and scenes from Broadway musicals, that students will have an opportunity to showcase their talents and discover new ones.
