St. John Bosco Recycling Program
Recycling Blitz every Wednesday from 8:30AM-8:55AM
How it works?
Every Wednesday morning when the school opens at 8:30AM students are encouraged to bring in bags of recycling. For every grocery bag of recycling brought in by a student their name will be entered into a draw for various prizes as well as a major prize just before Christmas and in June. Each class will also have their total counted and will be eligible for great prizes.
Every beverage container students bring in is matched by the provincial government through the MMSB. If your child brings in $1 worth of containers this is matched by government and our school receives $2.
You can also help by bringing your containers back directly to any Green Depot. Before the workers start counting your containers tell them you are donating your containers to the St. John Bosco School account. This money will be matched by the government. This is also a great way to get relatives in other parts of the city or even the province to help our school. Just tell them to donate their beverage containers to the St. John Bosco School account.
What containers are part of the program?
* Aluminum cans - soft drinks, beer, juice, flavoured drinks
* Drink boxes (Tetra Paks) - juice, milkshakes
* Plastic and glass bottles - soft drinks, water, juice, flavoured drinks, liquor bottles, imported beer
* Steel cans - juice
What's in it for me?
1) keeping beverage containers out of our landfills
2) keeping Shea Heights clean
3) teaching our children the importance of treating our environment with respect
4) the chance for students and their class to win awesome prizes (ex. pizza party, extra gym class, etc.)
5) all money raised goes right back to programs offered at St. John Bosco (library, technology, sports teams, games room)
Why is St. John Bosco School recycling?
Along with teaching your child the importance of recycling, our school is increasing its efforts this year to recycle more so that we can enhance the learning experience of students. Money raised through the recycling program will be used to increase literacy (language, math, science, technology), enhance our library, and promote healthy living.
