English 3201   Comparison Essay on   A Matter of Honour

Write a comparison contrast essay of 1000 words on how the character develops theme, and how conflict helps develop the main character. Reference   A Matter of Honour and  The Theban Plays in your essay.  Include a thesis and at least six direct references to the texts.  Any source must be cited using an appropriate format.  Use either the block or side by side format.




Film Study:  Complete 6 of the following.  Write at least 150-200 words for each research or descriptive answer requiring text.  Complete  1, 2, and 3.   Complete  2 descriptive writing or narrative passages, and 1 visual.

The Sword is an important symbol in the quest genre.  The King of the Elves mentions the Sword of the Kings can only be wielded by Aragorn (Strider) as he is the last of his line.  This was the same sword which was broken when Sauron was defeated (opening scenes as the ring’s history was reviewed).

        Essay Assignment comparing this novel to one other major work studied this year must be         submitted by May 25th.  Assignment will be provided one week before the due date.

The remainder classes (7 classes) will be used to finish these units and review for the final.  If the schedule is interrupted at any time, the classes available for exam preparation will be fewer.

English 3201:  Replacement Assignment For Any Work Not Submitted.  
One must be submitted for each assignment missed.  For example, if you have missed two major assignments, you must submit two essays.

Using at least three sources and references to the test, write a comparison essay of 1000-1200 words in length comparing the theme, conflict and character development in two major works studied throughout this year.  You must cite at least three sources as well as direct references to the actual text and include a properly formatted works cited page.

Presentation on novel study:  First class after Easter Break
Schindler's List Film Study April 20th.

Students should have finished reading the Independent novel.  Their choice was Schindler's List or The Fellowship of the Ring.
Students were required to prepare a presentation on the novel. The completion date was scheduled for March 28, but due to a large number of field trips, the presentations will be made in class immediately following  the Easter Break.

We will complete a film study on both of these movies, and all students are required to complete the assignment, regardless of which novel was read.  We have completed Schindler's List. The project due date is April 20th, 2012. Once presentations are completed, we will watch The Fellowship of the Ring and complete a study of this.

Prepare a slideshow presentation on one of the topics below.  The slideshow is to be presented in class with a  5-7  minutes range.  Each slide should contain at least one visual and text of not more than 5 lines.  You will be expected to use the slide only as a guide in your presentation (avoid reading the slides). You can include movie clips of no more than 30 seconds in length.  Your slideshow will require research as well as references to any sources you use.
