Mathematics

To date, we have been studying addition and subtraction strategies up to and including facts to 18.  We have been solving problems, doing many practice sheets to reinforce the strategies studied.  Even though we will be hopping back to the skills of addition and subtraction from time to time, we will be beginning the unit of Geometric Shapes and Solids next week (November 17th).  This unit will take us up to Christmas.
To encourage the understanding  of different shapes and solids, I would ask that you talk about shapes that we see in our own environment.  For example, a can of soup is shaped like a cylinder, a box of tissues is shaped like a rectangular prisim, etc.  The more examples of shapes and solids we notice in our environment, the more likely your child will be able to remember the vocabulary.
Good luck and have fun!
