This year our class will be studying Canada.
September 25th
During the past two weeks we have reviewed the continents/oceans and the compass rose. We have looked at Canada's place in the world and in North America. Students completed a take home assignment on material covered in class.
This week students will complete an in-class assignment called Atlas Scavenger Hunt. This activity is designed to help students get to know and to more efficiently use an atlas.

September 28th
The Scavenger Hunt Activity was sent home with students. Due date for completion is Wed., Sept. 30.
October 2nd
We have been studying physical and political maps. Students are to write a Social Studies Journal entry on that topic as homework for tomorrow.
We will be having a terms quiz on Tuesday, Oct. 6th, Day 6.
October 6th
The quiz will be extended to Friday, Oct. 9th. Students will also be required to label the continents and oceans.
We are presently studying major Canadian landforms.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at the major water bodies of Canada. (Great Lakes included)

November 3rd
Once all my students return to school, we will have a test covering all the material covered so far.
Term I Project: Famous Canadians
Students will be given a list of well known Canadians and they will research each person to discover their accomplishments. Students will then present their findings to the class. POSTPONED
November 9th
Quiz on Friday, Nov.13th, Day 4. Students need to know the terms describing Canada's landforms and water bodies. The quiz will be fill- in- the- blank, true/false, format. They will also be asked to illustrate some of the landforms and water bodies.
Unit Test: Thursday, Nov.19th. Students are responsible for all material covered so far this term. Students will be given a study guide and review sheets, in addition, I will conduct in class review.
November- December
We are studying the provinces/territories and capital cities, plus Canada's waterbodies. Students will complete a take home assignment at the end of this unit. We will be looking at Canada's rural and urban changes over the years and where people live in Canada. Students will complete a short in- class research assignment on this topic. We will also look at Canada's natural resources and will examine the relationship between resources and employment. Students will learn about the four economic sectors and the jobs available in each sector. Evaluation of this unit will be in the form of a poster project.

To Do:
· Put the title of the project on your bristol board.
· Divide your bristol section into four sections.
· Place one job sector title on each section of you bristol board.
· Give the definition and examples of jobs for each sector.
· Paste at least one picture of a job for each sector on your bristol board.
· Paste one job advertisement for each sector on your bristol board.
Be sure your work is neatly presented.
This project will be completed during class time.
February - March
The topics to be covered during the next couple of months will include:
- the natural resources of the Eastern and Western provinces
- a brief study of the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec and Labrador, The St. Laurence Valley, Ontario, the Prarie Provinces, British Columbia
