Students are currently working on chapter 3: Making a living in the 19th century.

Below is a summery of what we have done since Monday, October 26

1. All students must now have the terms for chapter 3 completed in their notebooks.

2. All classes have covered the introduction dealing with, Newfoundlanders as self-reliant, self- sufficient people. They should be very familiar with Table 3.2 on p.49. Seasonal Hunting and Gathering Activities, Northeastern Newfoundland (Early Twentieth Century)

Below is a summary of what we will be doing over the next week or so.

1. We are now viewing a video called "Salt Cod". Students are completing a listening exercise while watching this video. The video addresses how cod fish was traditionally processed for the first 450 years of the fishery. Students are responsible for this material on tests and quizzes.
Most classes are finished this activity.

2. 3 types of fishery in 19th century Newfoundland.    Notes of the 3 types of fishery.docNotes of the 3 types of fishery.pdf

This material can be found on p. 51-59. Students will take notes on 1) Inshore Fishery, 2) Labrador Fishery, 3) Bank Fishery, 4) Seal Hunt. This material will be tested on the next unit test.

Studnets will Read P.50 and complete #1.

4. Other occupations will then be addressed such the Merchants, trappers and boat builders.

I expect (hope) to test this unit around about the end of November.
