Read "Fish Merchants" Pp. 56 - 57 and answer the following:
1.Why was a fisherman's relationship with the community merchant so important?
2. Explain how the "Truck System" worked.
3. A "Culler" graded the fish. What does this mean?
4. Why could fisherman never be sure what their catch would be worth in the fall?
5. Explain this statement "Families often became trapped in a cycle of debt and remained at the mercy of the merchants"?
6. Explain why "Merchants were often at a disadvantage".
