Science Lab Write-up Outline

Labs should be written on punched paper that may be
kept in your notebooks with other material from the same chapter
 

 
 
Labs are generally due for the class that follows the lab date.
Unless otherwise stated.


Most lab write-ups will be marked out of 10 using the following format:

Purpose and/or Hypothesis

Apparatus and Materials

Procedure:  (Use text, but make changes where necessary i.e. did you do a
variation of the text?) Be sure to leave out directions from the text that
do not pertain to the actual procedure of the lab, such as directions to
copy tables in your notebook, etc.

Observation and Data  Charts, tables, graphs, diagrams. All should relate to
the procedure

Discussion:   Generally you are requested to answer some or all of the
questions asked by the text , or those on the lab sheet

Conclusion:  Relate the results back to the Hypothesis.  State what has been
learned or discovered.   Suggest further labs to reinforce or dispute
results.   Suggest possible areas of error or inaccuracy.

Note: On some labs the discussion questions will be worth more than 2
marks and therefore the lab will be worth more marks as well.
