At Holy Trinity High school, we are very proud
and excited to be part of an innovative expedition
to communicate the awareness of climate change
in a unique setting - the high Arctic.

Holy Trinity's student enivornmental group, Friends of the

competition to represent our province of

Cape Farewell is an international project
about climate change. Envisioned by British artist David
Buckland, it brings together scientists, artists, educators and
high school students from around the world on an Arctic
voyage of discovery.
On September 7.  28 young voyagers from Canada
and six other countries will board a research vessel in
Reykjavik, Iceland, to sail around the southern tip of
Greenland to Iqaluit on Canada’s Baffin Island.
As ambassadors of their schools and communities, they
will observe and interpret the effects of climate change in
the Arctic. What they see and experience will inspire them
and those they touch to seek social and technological
solutions to this huge global problem.
Julia, a Holy Trinity High student, was chosen
to participate in the Arctic Expedition. In addition to Julia,
our art teacher, Ms Karen Channing -- is one of four
teachers and the only Canadian Art Teacher invited to join
the expedition.

How will climate change affect Newfoundland &
and Conservation to find out!!

From the Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment: (CCME):

Sound, unbiased information on the impacts of climate change in Canada plays an important role in informing the Canadian public. A more informed Canadian public will be in a better position to respond to climate change and to contribute to climate change policy and programs developed by all levels of government throughout Canada. In response to this need, CCME established an intergovernmental task group intended to provide Canadians with such information.  The product of their work is Climate, Nature, People: Indicators of Canada’s Changing Climate.

Climate, Nature People: Indicators of Canada's Changing Climate describes changes to Canada’s climate during the 20th century and reviews trends and implications for twelve climate change indicators.  Temperature, precipitation, and other trends identified in the report suggest that climate in many regions of Canada is changing.  Individuals, communities, businesses and ecosystems will all be affected, although impacts will vary across the country.  By producing this report, CCME is raising awareness of the impacts changes in climate may have on the things Canadians value.

How was Julia, a member of FOG,  chosen to participate

competition!!  We now have the opportunity to broaden our
world view of climate change in a real  way.  We are
committed to communicate, explore and promote the
awareness of climate change to youth, both in our province
and beyond, as we all have the resposnsibility to problem
solve and act to ensure the sustainability of our planet.

One member of our FOG group, the voyageur, will be democratically
chosen to represent our school on the Arctic Expedition.
In the true spirit of team work and adventure, our environmental group,
school community, district and province will participate in this
expedition, both virtually and through classroom reflection of the
effects of climate change and remedial responses that youth can take.
