Welcome to Cowan Heights Elementary Kinderstart program! The goal of Kinderstart is to give your child positive experiences in the Kindergarten environment prior to starting school.
Kindergarten classes have a maximum number of 20 students per session. Based on the kindergarten registration received to date, we anticipate having two groups of English and two group of French Immersion. Students register in French Immersion at the school closest to their home, then on first come first served. During these sessions, children in both English and French will have the same Kinderstart experience.
There is a Parent Session on Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Resource Centre for parents of all students starting Kindergarten in September 2009. This meeting will outline the program for you and your child.
There are six visits to the classrooms this year. Parents come with the children for all six sessions. During the last two sessions, children stay in the classroom with the teachers while their parents/caregivers attend information/orientation sessions. All sessions are one hour long. Each visit is scheduled for the same time each day. The dates below show the schedules for Groups A, B and C.

Please note that, if for any reason your child cannot attend the scheduled session, he/she may attend any other group session on that day. Please call the school so that Kindergarten teachers can be prepared for the arrival time of the student. There are no makeup sessions if a child is unable to attend any of the three groups on a specific date. If you need any further information, you may contact the school at 745-1700.
