Parking Lot Safety

DROP OFF/ PICK UP LANE
	The Drop Off/Pickup lane is for drop off and pick up of students only. Cars stopping in this lane must stop to the right, allowing traffic to pass on the left. Cars stopping here must not be left unattended (Drivers stay with your car). As spaces in front of you become available cars should move up the line. Once the passenger is picked up or dropped off, drivers can pull into the left of the lane and exit (Taking care to follow the directions of our crossing guard).

OUTSIDE LANE
	The outside lane exiting the parking lot is a “No Stopping Lane”; meaning drivers must not use this lane for picking up children. Doing so obstructs the free flow of traffic from the parking lot. Congestion in this area also increases the risk of injury to pedestrians walking to the parking lot. After monitoring this area for a period of time we have made an exception to morning drop off only. It is permissible to drop children off in this area in the morning as long as they are dropped off next to the island on the right side of this lane. This should be done quickly with as little delay as possible. Children dropped off here must cross the inside lane with the assistance of the crossing guard. It is recommended that this option only be used for older children (Elementary). (Note: Please don’t stop on the outside Crosswalk) Allowing this change doubles the drop off rate and speeds up traffic for all our parents. Please note again, because of increased traffic at afternoon dismissal, this area must not be used to pick up children and remains as a no stopping area at 2:50 PM dismissal.

PARKING LOT MAIN ENTRANCE (To Cowan Ave.)
	Cars are not permitted to stop/park when entering or leaving the main entrance lane of the parking lot from/to Cowan Avenue . Doing so creates a bottleneck in traffic which slows everything down. Children are also walking in this area and parked cars will obstruct the drivers’ view of these children.

HANDICAPPED PARKING AREA
	As always the parking area directly in front of the school is restricted to Handicapped busses and cars with Handicapped stickers. Those illegally stopping or parking in this area can be ticketed by St. John’s Traffic Enforcement ($75.00 Fine)

GOING INTO THE BUlLDING
	Finally if you wish to leave your car to accompany children into the building or to go into the building to pick up a child please park in one of the stalls in the parking lot. Please do not park or stop in the traffic lanes of the parking lot. Doing so blocks cars from entering or leaving the parking stalls and restricts the smooth flow of traffic.
