The instructors for St. Matthew’s Aikikai are Paul Glavine (3rd dan), Colleen Hogan (3rd dan), and Jim Sinnott (3rd dan). All three instructors have in excess of 15 years practicing Aikido, and are also active students of Derm McDonald (Shihan, 6th dan), a retired educator whobegan the practice of Aikido in 1972. Derm’s club (the Aikido Institute of Newfoundland) is affiliated with Aikido World Headquarters.
Practice mats for St. Matthew's Aikikai have been supplied through a grant from the St. John's Community Wellness Coalition and through a capital recreation grant from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
